Dungeon Keeper 2 Review

The Dungeon Heart is being attacked.

Dungeon Keeper 2 is an RTS game... You play as an evil Dungeon Keeper (duh). Dungeon Keeper 2 was made by Bullfrog Productions and it was published by Electronic Arts (EA) in 1999.
You can play a campaign or you can make a custom match and play against the computer. You can also play lan or online.

What the Dungeon looks like when you start a new match.

When you start a game you only have your Dungeon Heart (Main Base). You have to protect your Dungeon Heart because if it is destroyed... You lose. You also start out with some money/gold and a few Imp's (Workers). Now you can command your Imp's to dig tunnels and create rooms for you. You have to create special rooms like a Lair where your creatures can sleep and regain lost health and a Library where special creatures can study spells for you. You can also protect your Dungeon by building traps in the Workshop (You need to build this room first). Then once you have some rooms you can dig into a Portal. Creatures will come through this portal to live in your Dungeon and fight for you or study spells for you. Now you have to make sure your creatures are happy (They will become unhappy if they doesn't get paid when it is payday, If they have no bed in the Lair or if they live with other creatures that they dont like). If one of your creatures becomes unhappy he/she will leave your Dungeon. As you dig and expand your Dungeon further and further you will eventually run into the enemy. Let the fight begin! Your creatures will automaticly attack enemy creatures. You can then use your spells to attack the enemy. If you build a Training room you can train your creatures to be stronger and faster. Be careful though.. Everytime a creature goes to the Training room to train it will cost you money/gold. To avoid this you can build a Casino to make money from your creatures. Once you've defeated an enemy creature it will be knocked unconscious now you can finish it off or if you have a Prison you can capture it. Now you have prisoners... But what to do with them? You can build a Torture Chamber and convert the enemy creatures to join your side or you can let them rot in the prison and create undead skeletons to fight for you.

Dungeon Keeper 2 has alot of nice features and it's fun to play. The only problem with it is that it cant run that well on XP, Vista and Windows 7. There is a way to make it playable though.

How to make Dungeon Keeper 2 playable on Windows Vista and Windows 7

So you want to play Dungeon Keeper 2 on your Vista or Windows 7 machine... Well here's how you do it.

1): Make sure ALL your drivers are up to date. (Graphic Drivers, DirectX, etc.)
2): Update the game to version 1.70 or higher.
3): Make a shortcut to the game on your desktop. (DKII.exe)
4): Now right-click on the shortcut and choose properties.
5): In the path text field put -softwarefilter -32bitdisplay at the end of the path.
6): Goto the
Compatibility tab and set the game to run in Windows 98 / Me mode.
Check Disable visual themes and desktop composition. Click OK.
7): Now once you've launched the game goto the options menu and then into the graphics menu. Untick Hardware Acceleraction. Now go back and start a match. The game should run.

You can also try running the game in administrator mode. If none of this worked for you, you can try to install Wine. I've heard that it will make the game run great... Haven't tested it myself though.

Anyway back to the review

So the game is really fun and addicting. The gameplay works great! The only problem is that it's hard to get fully working on newer systems. I give this game 7.5/10 but it's still worth getting.
