Dungeon Keeper 2 Review

The Dungeon Heart is being attacked.

Dungeon Keeper 2 is an RTS game... You play as an evil Dungeon Keeper (duh). Dungeon Keeper 2 was made by Bullfrog Productions and it was published by Electronic Arts (EA) in 1999.
You can play a campaign or you can make a custom match and play against the computer. You can also play lan or online.

What the Dungeon looks like when you start a new match.

When you start a game you only have your Dungeon Heart (Main Base). You have to protect your Dungeon Heart because if it is destroyed... You lose. You also start out with some money/gold and a few Imp's (Workers). Now you can command your Imp's to dig tunnels and create rooms for you. You have to create special rooms like a Lair where your creatures can sleep and regain lost health and a Library where special creatures can study spells for you. You can also protect your Dungeon by building traps in the Workshop (You need to build this room first). Then once you have some rooms you can dig into a Portal. Creatures will come through this portal to live in your Dungeon and fight for you or study spells for you. Now you have to make sure your creatures are happy (They will become unhappy if they doesn't get paid when it is payday, If they have no bed in the Lair or if they live with other creatures that they dont like). If one of your creatures becomes unhappy he/she will leave your Dungeon. As you dig and expand your Dungeon further and further you will eventually run into the enemy. Let the fight begin! Your creatures will automaticly attack enemy creatures. You can then use your spells to attack the enemy. If you build a Training room you can train your creatures to be stronger and faster. Be careful though.. Everytime a creature goes to the Training room to train it will cost you money/gold. To avoid this you can build a Casino to make money from your creatures. Once you've defeated an enemy creature it will be knocked unconscious now you can finish it off or if you have a Prison you can capture it. Now you have prisoners... But what to do with them? You can build a Torture Chamber and convert the enemy creatures to join your side or you can let them rot in the prison and create undead skeletons to fight for you.

Dungeon Keeper 2 has alot of nice features and it's fun to play. The only problem with it is that it cant run that well on XP, Vista and Windows 7. There is a way to make it playable though.

How to make Dungeon Keeper 2 playable on Windows Vista and Windows 7

So you want to play Dungeon Keeper 2 on your Vista or Windows 7 machine... Well here's how you do it.

1): Make sure ALL your drivers are up to date. (Graphic Drivers, DirectX, etc.)
2): Update the game to version 1.70 or higher.
3): Make a shortcut to the game on your desktop. (DKII.exe)
4): Now right-click on the shortcut and choose properties.
5): In the path text field put -softwarefilter -32bitdisplay at the end of the path.
6): Goto the
Compatibility tab and set the game to run in Windows 98 / Me mode.
Check Disable visual themes and desktop composition. Click OK.
7): Now once you've launched the game goto the options menu and then into the graphics menu. Untick Hardware Acceleraction. Now go back and start a match. The game should run.

You can also try running the game in administrator mode. If none of this worked for you, you can try to install Wine. I've heard that it will make the game run great... Haven't tested it myself though.

Anyway back to the review

So the game is really fun and addicting. The gameplay works great! The only problem is that it's hard to get fully working on newer systems. I give this game 7.5/10 but it's still worth getting.

Top 10 OldSchool Games

10: Dune.

Dune is one of the first RTS games. It's pretty complicated to get started with but once you've got the hang of it it's actually pretty fun. The graphics are not that great but then again it's very old. It's fun and the gameplay works great... Still it's not enough to make it to the top of this list.

9: Super Mario

Super Mario is a classic. I've played it alot and it's still fun and even though there is newer versions of it with great looking graphics.. Nothing beats the oldschool feel. Super Mario is fun but not my favorite oldschool game.

8: The Legend Of Kyrandia

The Legend Of Kyrandia is an adventure game. It's about this evil clown (Well I call him a clown) with magical powers and he has murdered the king and the queen. You control the Prince of the kindom Kyrandia. It's a great adventure but still it's not enough to make it to the top.

7: The Legend Of Kyrandia 2

The Legend Of Kyrandia 2 (Also known as The Hand Of Fate) is much better than the first one. You control a young female alchemist who has discovered that the kindom of Kyrandia is in great danger. Now you have to solve puzzles to find the source of evil and destroy it. A great feature of the game is that you can make potions from almost everything you find. Potions you can make include one that turns your hair into snakes and one that makes sandwiches.

6: The Lost Vikings

In The Lost Vikings you actually control 3 charactors that you can switch between. You have to get from point A to B. Each level has alot of dangerous stuff and if one of the charactors is killed.. You lose. Each charactor has different abilities. One of them has a shield that he can use to protect himself and the others with. He can also use it as a parachute. Another one has a bow and a sword. He can fight monsters and shoot buttons that are out of reach. The last one can jump and run very fast. He can also destroy some wall. Overall great game.

5: Hexen

Hexen is one of the very first RPG games. It's a bit confusing because sometimes you might push a button in one level and a door opens in another. But other than that it's a cool and fun game.

4: The D.I.G

The D.I.G is one of the best adventure games ever made. The voice acting is great and the beautiful backgrounds is making this game the best of the best. The game is made by LucasArts and the story is written by Steven Spielberg which might explain the awesome storyline. The game is running on the SCUMM engine. I've said it before and I'm gonna say it again.. This game is awesome.

3: Duke Nukem 3D

Here he is ladies and gentlemen.. Duke Nukem. This game has it all.. Humor, Action, Gore, Monsters, Babes n' boobs. What more do you need? Even though Duke Nukem 3D is an awesome game it still didn't make it to the top of my list... Sorry Duke.

2: Doom

Here it is.. The father of FPS's.. Doom. This game is awesome and it never gets boring and that's why it got the second place on my list. If you dont like the oldschool graphics then try Doomsday Engine. It adds new textures, dynamic lights, 3D models and better control.

1: Doom 2

And here it is... The winner.. My favorite oldschool game. The reason I choose Doom 2 over Doom is because of the many levels instead of episodes. Also it's easier to mod and it's just awesome.. I remember playing multiplayer co-op in it all night with my friends... Doom 2 only got a few more weapons that Doom didn't have though... For example the DoubleBarrel Shotgun.

That was my Top10 list of OldSchool Games.
Should you want to try any of these games out.. Download Dosbox to play them.

Saw - The Video Game Review

Have you ever wanted to be trapped in one of jigsaw's games?.. Or atleast play them yourself?.. Ofcause you have and now is your chance.
Saw the video game is an adventure.. nah more like a horror adventure. It got some action and combat but we will get into that later. You play as Detective David Tapp, the cop from the first film. The game takes place between the first and second saw movie.
When you first start the game you wake up in The Reversed Bear Trap. The trap Amanda was trapped in, in the first movie. You will see the famous TV in front of you and Billy(The white doll Jigsaw is using in his tests) will come up on the screen and tell you why your there and what you have to do to escape. Now you dont have to go search for a key to get this thing off, instead you just need to move your mouse(Or controller if your playing on the Xbox or PS3) around to keep you calm and then the trap will remove itself actually. Now that your out of your trap it's time to get out of Jigsaw's asylum. You have to solve puzzles in order to get through the game, those puzzles include: A normal Jigsaw Puzzle, A Pipe Puzzle(Those can be hard), Powerbox Puzzle(Not that bad they just take time) and other kinds of puzzles. Most of these puzzles are randomly generated everytime you play the game. Once in a while you might run into other people who are trapped and playing a game just like you. Their job is to kill you and retrive a key hidden in your stomach in order to escape their own game. Ofcause you have to fight those people. The combat system in the game is horrible with a capital H. You will get annoyed at it, The enemies can somehow punch faster than you and you would think that a baseball bat would be better in combat than your fists... But you would be wrong. When carring a weapon your attack is so slow that you almost doesn't have a chance. Remember if you buy and play this game.. Use your fists... Always.

But apart from the horrible combat system it's a really cool and fun game. You really feel like your trapped in Jigsaw's game. When you enter a room and pick up the audio tape... Then you see the timer on the wall starts ticking.. That.. is an awesome feeling.. Fast thinking is required sometimes.

Overall it's one of the better games out there. If you like the saw movies.. You will love this game. I give it 8/10.

Game Over...
